Indian Grand Prix: New Delhi Round-Up

Post-qualifying bets perform best once again...

In general I always like to wait until after qualifying before placing my bets, so to test whether that's the best strategy or not, every Grand Prix weekend I give myself 100 points and then place a few hypothetical bets both before and after qualifying using the odds available from SkyBet.com.  I then analyse their performance and see which set of tips do best.

My pre-qualifying tips were a washout this weekend, but my post-qualifying tips returned a slight overall profit…

To Win Outright:
15 points on Lewis Hamilton at 8.0 - LOSS
Sebastian Vettel justified his extremely short of odds of 1.4 with a very comfortable victory.

To Finish In The Points (Top Ten Finish):
20 points on Bruno Senna at 3.0WIN 60 points
Like he has done on several occasions previously this season, Bruno Senna once again just sneaked into the lower end of the points scoring positions.

Top Six Finish:
20 points on Fernando Alonso at 1.29 – WIN 26 points
On reflection I was overly cagey and should have gone for Alonso for the podium rather than a top six finish, but nevertheless this still proved to be a winning bet.

Fastest Pitstop:
10 points on Jenson Button at 3.25 - LOSS

Not To Be Classified:
10 points on Michael Schumacher at 4.5 – LOSS
If Michael Schumacher's gearbox problems had struck one lap sooner then this would have been a winning bet, but as his retirement came on the 55th lap it meant he was within 5 laps of the finish and was therefore classified 22nd.  However, given his reliability issues and his previous 7 DNFs so far this season, Schumacher has to be worth considering again for a ‘Not To Be Classfied’ bet at this season's remaining Grand Prix.

Dual Forecast:
5 points on Hamilton/Webber at 21.0 LOSS

Driver match bets…
Kimi Raikkonen V Romain Grosjean:
7 points on Kimi Raikkonen at 1.29 – WIN 9 points

Pedro De La Rosa V Narain Karthikeyan:
7 points on De La Rosa at 1.5 - LOSS

Nico Rosberg V Michael Schumacher:
6 points on Nico Rosberg at 1.62 – WIN 10 points

Making an overall return of 105 points from 100 points and therefore an overall profit of 5 points.

Given the poor showing of my pre-qualifying tips, this would once again suggest that after qualifying when the grid is settled is the best time to place your formula 1 bets.

The running totals in the comparative performance of my pre and post qualifying tips now stands at:

Pre-qualifying tips – 1.5
Post-qualifying tips tips – 3.5

I’ll post my pre-qualifying tips for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in a couple of days time.
