Korean Grand Prix: Yeongam Round-Up

The driver’s championship is now looking very much like a two horse race and although Red Bull look very strong at the moment, Ferrari aren’t too far away so it’s all to play for with four races to go.

Pre-Qualifying Tips:
To Win Outright:
25 points on Lewis Hamilton at 4.5 - LOSS
Lewis suffered from an issue with his rear suspension during the race, but even before his suspension problem manifested itself he never looked in with a chance of troubling Vettel for the victory.

To Finish On The Podium:
15 points on Fernando Alonso at 2.5 – WIN 38 points
Once again Fernando continued his impressive run of podium finishes and if we disregard retirements he has now finished on the podium in eight out of the last ten Grand Prix.  Again excluding retirements, Fernando has also improved on or matched his grid position in all but two of the races so far this season, so that’s one other statistic worth bearing in mind when considering a post-qualifying bet on Fernando in future Grand Prix.

To Finish In The Points (Top Ten Finish):
20 points on Nico Rosberg at 2.0 - LOSS
After qualifying this was looking like an excellent bet but sadly car damage due to a collision at the start meant that Nico had a very short afternoon.

Fastest Lap:
5 points on Paul Di Resta at 34.0 - LOSS
Mark Webber took the fastest lap of the Korean Grand Prix.

Fastest Qualifier:
25 points on Lewis Hamilton at 4.5 - LOSS
Lewis had a respectable qualifying but was unable to match the outright one-lap pace of the Red Bulls.

* The fastest qualifier market isn't offered at OLBG.com so for this bet I used the odds available at SkyBet.com.

Qualifying Winning Margin:
10 points on 0.150 seconds or more at 1.8 - LOSS
For only the 2nd time in the last seven Grand Prix, the front row of the grid were separated by less than 0.15 seconds in qualifying.

* The qualifying winning margin isn't offered at OLBG.com so for this bet I used the odds available at SkyBet.com.

Making an overall return of 38 points and therefore a loss of 62 points.

Post-Qualifying Tips:
To Win Outright:
25 points on Mark Webber at 4.33 - LOSS
Mark lost out to Vettel at the start and after that Vettel looked pretty comfortable all race.  The only slight worry for Sebastian was in the closing laps when his front right tyre was down to the very limit, but it held on to earn Sebastian his third successive win.

To Win (Eachway):
10 points on Felipe Massa at 51.0 - LOSS
Rob Smedley actually told Felipe to slow down once he caught up to the back of Fernando, so although Massa didn’t quite manage an eachway win on this occasion, on current form Felipe looks like one to watch as an eachway bet for future Grand Prix in case the bookies price him generously once again.

To Finish On The Podium:
20 points on Kimi Raikkonen at 5.5 - LOSS
A solid but unspectacular race from Kimi earned him 5th position.

To Finish In The Points (Top Ten Finish):
10 points on Paul Di Resta at 2.25 - LOSS
Paul finished 4.8 seconds outside the top ten in 12th position.

Top Six Finish:
15 points on Jenson Button at 2.5 - LOSS
A first lap retirement due to a collision from Kamui Kobayashi put paid to a top six finish for Jenson.

* Top Six Finish isn't offered at OLBG.com so for this bet I used the odds available at SkyBet.com.

Winning Margin:*
10 points on Under 6 Seconds at 1.83 - LOSS

* Winning Margin isn't offered at OLBG.com so for this bet I used the odds available at SkyBet.com.

Fastest Lap:
10 points on Kimi Raikkonen at 17.0 - LOSS

Making an overall return of 0 points and therefore a loss of 100 points.

For the first time since I started making predictions, my post-qualifying tips have been pipped by my pre-qualifying tips making the running totals:
Pre-qualifying – 1.5
Post-qualifying – 2.5

Once the grid is settled after qualifying is therefore still looking like the best time to place your formula 1 bets.

Missed opportunities:
The biggest missed opportunity was probably Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne for a top ten finish at 6.5 and 8.0 respectively.  Their reasonably strong race pace and excellent straight line speed meant that both Toro Rosso drivers finished in the points.

Disclaimer:  A small bet can make a formula 1 race more exciting but the unpredictable nature of the sport mean that having a large bet is just stupid.  Gambling can be a risky business so never bet more than you can afford to lose.  The safest way to bet is with points rather than pounds, so if you'd like the chance to gamble risk-free with points for the chance to win cash prizes then a website worth visiting is OLBG.com.  It's free to sign up and they offer cash prizes for the most successful punters in various sporting categories.  If you'd like to check it out then click on the link below:
