The Australian Grand Prix: Melbourne Pre-Qualifying Tips

Formula 1 Tips For The Australian Grand Prix

The wait is over and the new season is finally here!

For each Grand Prix of the season I'm going to place a few hypothetical bets pre and post qualifying using the odds available from SkyBet.com and see which set of tips perform best.  In 2012 my post-qualifying tips generally outperformed my pre-qualifying tips so I'll see if that's how things turn out once again.

It's always a bit of a step into the unknown at the start of a new season when making predictions, but I'll see how I go...

To Win Outright:
20 points on Jenson Button at 6.0

Jenson Button wasn't overly pleased with the way things went for McLaren at the recent Barcelona test, but he clearly likes the Albert Park track and has won three of the last four Australian Grand Prix.  At odds of 6.0 he therefore looks worth a small bet for another Australian victory.

Podium Finish:
30 points on Fernando Alonso at 2.0
Fernando seems a lot happier with his Ferrari this year than he did at the start of 2012, and when you look at the regularity with which he achieved podium finishes last season he would have to be a strong contender for a top three finish at Melbourne.

Top Six Finish:

30 points on Kimi Raikkonen at 1.5
When looking for a bet in the Top Six market you want a driver with consistency and Kimi Raikkonen certainly has that, finishing in the top six at 11 of the last 13 Grand Prix of 2012.

To Finish In The Points (Top Ten Finish):
20 points on Daniel Ricciardo at 3.0
Daniel Ricciardo made the top ten at five of the last nine Grand Prix of 2012 so if the top teams hit problems this weekend then at odds of 3.0 Ricciardo could maybe be an outside bet to carry his form over into 2013 and possibly sneak into the lower end of the points scoring positions.

At the start of a new season it's always hard to predict how things will turn out at the first Grand Prix of the year.  It would perhaps be wise therefore to wait until after qualifying before making any bets, so as already mentioned I'll make another set of tips after qualifying, and then see how my predictions compare.

Just as a final note, the Driver Specials market on SkyBet features a couple of season bets which look interesting:
Jenson Button - Over 1.5 wins during 2013 at 1.4
Sebastian Vettel - Over 3.5 wins during 2013 at 1.67
