Formula 1 Betting By Numbers
Today I move onto the Top Ten Finish market and as usual I've produced two charts; the first weighted in favour of recent form and the second based on the entire 2013 season.
The recent form chart is as follows:
'Betting Profit' Chart For Top Ten Finish (Current Form):
Top 10 Finish | Profit* | Winning Bet |
Nico Hulkenberg | 2.75 | 2 |
Pastor Maldonado | 1.50 | 1 |
Mark Webber | 0.66 | 6 |
Kimi Raikkonen | 0.57 | 6 |
Fernando Alonso | 0.53 | 6 |
Sergio Perez | 0.48 | 3 |
Lewis Hamilton | 0.44 | 5 |
Jenson Button | 0.36 | 4 |
Sebastian Vettel | -0.24 | 5 |
Felipe Massa | -0.39 | 4 |
Nico Rosberg | -0.42 | 5 |
Romain Grosjean | -0.79 | 2 |
Jean-Eric Vergne | -1.04 | 2 |
Paul di Resta | -1.25 | 4 |
Adrian Sutil | -1.27 | 3 |
Daniel Ricciardo | -1.38 | 2 |
Rest Of The Field | -3.50 | 0 |
* Profit weighted in favour of recent races. To be specific, I've calculated the returns based on a standard £1 bet on the same driver at each of the previous six Grand Prix and then applied the following multipliers; Spain 16.7%, Monaco 33.3%, Canada 50%, Britain 66.7%, Germany 83.3% and Hungary 100%.
Here's the chart for the entire season:
'Betting Profit' Chart For Top Ten Finish (Entire Season):
Top 10 Finish | Profit* | Winning Bet |
Nico Hulkenberg | 2.83 | 4 |
Kimi Raikkonen | 1.73 | 10 |
Paul di Resta | 1.15 | 7 |
Mark Webber | 0.89 | 9 |
Lewis Hamilton | 0.85 | 9 |
Jean-Eric Vergne | 0.50 | 3 |
Fernando Alonso | 0.46 | 9 |
Sebastian Vettel | 0.40 | 9 |
Jenson Button | 0.14 | 7 |
Sergio Perez | -0.67 | 5 |
Felipe Massa | -0.88 | 7 |
Nico Rosberg | -1.17 | 7 |
Romain Grosjean | -1.38 | 6 |
Daniel Ricciardo | -1.50 | 3 |
Adrian Sutil | -3.19 | 4 |
Pastor Maldonado | -5.00 | 1 |
Rest Of The Field | -10.00 | 0 |
* As a reminder, the 'Profit' column shows the amount of profit you would have made if you'd placed a £1 bet on the same driver at every Grand Prix this season. Please note, even in the few days before first practise, the odds can sometimes vary slightly, so I've generally tried to take the odds a few days before each Grand Prix as soon as the market opened.
Kimi remains the master of consistency with a perfect record this season for points scoring finishes. Overall though, the spread of profit is far less than with other categories of formula 1 betting, so if you're looking for a big win then obviously betting on the Top Ten Finish market is generally not the way to go.
