Formula 1 Betting By Numbers
To help me cope with my formula 1 withdrawal symptoms during the three week gap between Bahrain and Spain, a few days ago I analysed the Winning Driver and Podium Finish betting markets to see which drivers have been the most profitable bets so far this season.
Not surprisingly, Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen have been two of the safest drivers to bet on so far, but if you want to see the full Winning Driver and Podium Finish betting profit charts then you can find them at the following link:

Today I move onto the Top Six betting market and just to explain once again, the following chart shows the profit you would have made if you'd bet £1 on the same driver for a top six finish at every Grand Prix:
Top 6 Finish | Profit* | Winning Bet |
Lewis Hamilton | 1.99 | 4 |
Felipe Massa | 1.69 | 3 |
Romain Grosjean | 1.63 | 2 |
Sebastian Vettel | 1.00 | 4 |
Sergio Perez | 1.00 | 1 |
Kimi Raikkonen | 0.08 | 3 |
Paul Di Resta | -0.25 | 1 |
Mark Webber | -0.71 | 2 |
Fernando Alonso | -1.38 | 2 |
Jenson Button | -1.80 | 1 |
Nico Rosberg | -1.80 | 1 |
Rest Of The Field | -4.00 | 0 |
* Please note, even in the few days before first practise, the odds can sometimes vary slightly, so I've generally tried to take the odds a few days before each Grand Prix as soon as the market opened on SkyBet.
As you can see, Lewis Hamilton has clearly been the driver to go for in the Top Six Finish market as he has been both the most profitable bet and also the safest, with his two 3rd places and two 5th places ensuring all bets on Hamilton for a top six finish so far this season have been winning bets.
Felipe Massa has also been a farly reliable bet in the Top Six market, with only his double tyre puncture in Bahrain preventing him from matching Lewis Hamilton's level of consistency. This is the first category where Kimi Raikkonen doesn't feature so prominently, due to his disappointing result in Malaysia, although he still manages to sneak a very slight profit.
Unlike the Podium Finish market there have been no real large returns to have been had from Top Six betting so far this season, with Paul Di Resta (priced at 3.75 for a Top Six Finish before Bahrain qualifying) the highest priced winning bet so far thanks to his 4th place in Bahrain.
Next up is the Top Ten Finish betting profit charts and I'll be posting the results in a few days time.
